NewsBank Announces Significant Enhancements To Its News Resources
Innovative features let news researchers quickly narrow results, create timelines and compare viewpoints
JANUARY 8, 2008 (NAPLES, FL) - Today
NewsBank released an improved interface featuring tools that precisely refine search results within its online news databases. The intuitive new features enable users – with a single click – to narrow the focus of a given search across NewsBank's unrivaled local, regional, national and international news content.
Developed with an advisory board of librarians, the enhanced interface also makes it easy to explore topics or events over time; compare different viewpoints in news coverage across locations and time periods; and search by location, source, content type, date, time period and more. These upgrades are available free of charge to all subscribers, and can be customized to meet a library’s specific needs.
“Researchers using news databases are frequently overwhelmed by extensive search returns,” says News Division Senior Vice President Susan Bokern. “NewsBank users are now presented with a suite of intuitive options that dramatically refine their results.”
Librarians who have previewed the new interface are impressed with the new functionality.
"It changes the way we can use newspaper databases. The keyword-in-context results save a lot of time," says Helene Gold, Electronic Services Librarian at Eckerd College’s Peter H. Armacost Library.
"The new search results go a long way in letting students easily compare and contrast local and regional coverage not found elsewhere," says Debora Cheney, Head of the News and Social Sciences Libraries, Pennsylvania State University.
The new features will be added to the following NewsBank products: Access World News, America’s Newspapers, Armed Services and Government News, America's Newspapers/Hometown News, Newsroom Edition, Australia's Newspapers, Access UK and Ireland Newspapers, Alerts & Research, and Asia’s Newspapers.
